No longer are they blending in with the soil in their raised beds and borders but they are taking on the spectacle of their blooms - pink, blue, yellow, lilac - gardens are alive with colour, so why not the gardeners!

That is the thinking behind Girlie Gardening, a thriving business that is bringing fun to gardens, with a range of products that as well as being well-made and practical are unashamedly girlie.

The concept is the brainchild of Helen James, mother of 5, and Cathy Caudwell Todd, mother of 2. The pair were friends who felt the country’s army of women gardeners would appreciate a little glamour as they weeded, planted and watered.

Helen and Cathy designed garden accessories, clothing and a host of other outdoor goods which are bright, brash and very feminine.

This niche business is not only designed to get women everywhere into the garden, but is also the trendiest party plan company on the block. All the products are sold via home parties, just like Virgin Vie and Ann Summers. The entrepreneurial pair have recruited agents around the UK and have plans to expand to around 1000 agents in the UK.

Having become finalists in the ITV1 Tycoon programme the gutsy duo spent 3 months working with Peter Jones (of Dragon Den fame) who simply didn’t understand this niche market. The girls were railroaded into changing their company for the purposes of television, and while it was an exciting time the women had to spend 3 months in London away from their families.

Their amazing efforts led them to come second in the competition which was voted for by the British public. Having returned to their roots and continued with the party plan expansion, the pair have won the admiration of women gardeners everywhere.

The product range is continually expanding and includes many quirky features such as  the wellie warmers which have a great pocket especially for girlie gardeners to put their lip balm...all girlie gardeners want soft and kissable lips!!!
